Members on the register without app access
Switch off "App access" on the membership type. Members with that type remain on the register and can be invoiced, but Membly never sends them a welcome email, an invitation or a login link — and they cannot sign in. It suits, for example, children who should be on the register without an account of their own, an alumni register, or honorary members.
The setting lives on the membership type, not on each individual member: one type governs everyone who has it.
Switching access off on a membership type
Go to Settings → Membership types and roles.
Open the type, or tap "Add membership type" to create one.
Switch off "App access".
A warning spells out what it means: the members remain on the register and can be invoiced, but never receive a welcome email, an invitation or a login link.
Tap Save.
What happens to emails and sign-in
Bulk welcome emails: when you tap "Send to all not joined" on the Invited tab, these members are skipped, and the confirmation shows how many — for example "12 were skipped — their membership type does not grant app access".
Import: if you pick a type without app access for the file, no welcome emails go out even with "Send welcome email" switched on — and neither do the guardian invitations in the file. The result says both, and you send the invitations later with "Send pending invitations" in the guardian panel at the top of the member list.
If you resend the welcome email from a member's profile, you are told that no email was sent because the membership type lacks app access. If you invite the address again, that whole batch is stopped with the same message — remove the address and send again.
If the member tries to sign in or sign up with their own address, they see "Your membership doesn't include app access" and no link is sent. If the member also holds a membership in another association that grants access, they sign in as usual; sign-in is only stopped when every membership lacks access.
Switching access on later
Switching "App access" on for a type that has been off gives everyone with that type access at once. So Membly first asks "Grant app access?" and shows the number of members with that type. Confirm, then tap Save — only then does the change take effect. After that, send the welcome emails from the Invited tab.
If only a few should get access: change their membership type instead, to a type where access is on.
Children and guardians
A child with a membership type without app access can still have guardians linked. The guardian responds to events and pays fees on the child's behalf from their own account — the child never needs to sign in.
