Cookie policy
Last updated: 9 August 2026
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small text files stored on your device when you visit a website. They are used so that the site can remember your choices and work correctly. Similar technologies (localStorage, sessionStorage) store information locally in your browser without it being sent to the server. This policy explains which cookies and similar technologies Membly uses, why, and how you can manage them. We follow the rules in the Swedish Electronic Communications Act (2022:482), Chapter 9, Section 28 (formerly Chapter 6, Section 18), and the guidance on cookies issued by the Swedish Post and Telecom Authority (PTS). Consent for non-essential cookies is renewed as needed after approximately 12 months.
2. Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies are required for the service to work and do not require consent. Without them you cannot log in or use security-sensitive parts of the service. • sb-access-token, sb-refresh-token (Supabase) — authentication sessions. Required for login and security (Row-Level Security). Session cookies, or persistent until the tokens expire (typically 1 hour for access, 30 days for refresh). • Other security cookies (e.g. CSRF protection) — set by Next.js / Supabase where technically necessary. • Stripe cookies during payment — set by Stripe Checkout when you pay. Required for the payment flow and for fraud prevention. Governed by Stripe's own privacy policy (stripe.com/privacy).
3. Functional local storage
We store a few settings locally in your browser (localStorage). These are technically not cookies but are declared here for transparency. None of them is sent to our servers. • membly-locale — your chosen language (sv/en). • membly-dark-mode — your choice of light or dark mode. • membly-push-banner-dismissed:v1 — whether you have dismissed the push notification banner, so that it is not shown again. • membly-seen-screens — records one-time screens (e.g. the welcome flow) so that they are not shown again. You can clear these via your browser settings ("clear site data for membly.app").
4. Analytics and error reporting
We use no analytics services of the Google Analytics, Meta Pixel or Mixpanel kind, and no third-party advertising cookies. For error reporting we use Sentry (Functional Software, Inc., USA). Sentry collects technical error messages, stack traces and contextual information about how the error arose so that we can identify and fix bugs. We have configured Sentry to deliberately avoid sending personal data; technical identifiers and IP addresses may however appear as part of standard error messages. Sentry is covered by the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and the EU Standard Contractual Clauses. For internal product metrics we use our own first-party service (without third-party cookies) which logs event types without profiling individual users.
5. Third-party embeds
The service contains the following third-party embeds, which may set their own cookies or store data locally: • Stripe Checkout — shown during payment. Stripe's own cookies are used for security and fraud prevention. Governed by stripe.com/privacy. • Google Maps/Places (Google Ireland Limited) — loaded in the app when you fill in an address (for example the location of an event) for address suggestions and geocoding. Google may set its own cookies and store data locally in order to deliver and protect the service. This is not strictly necessary for Membly as a whole — it is activated only in address fields. Governed by Google's privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). Consent to non-essential third-party services is renewed as needed after approximately 12 months. We use no other third-party embeds (no embedded video, no social media buttons with tracking, no external chat widget).
6. How to manage cookies
You can open your cookie settings at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer on public pages, or under Account → Privacy in the app. There you can turn error reporting (Sentry) on or off. Your choice is stored locally on the device. You can also manage or block cookies via your browser settings. Note that if you block strictly necessary cookies you will not be able to log in to the service. Guidance per browser: • Chrome: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data. • Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage website data. • Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data. To clear Membly's local storage specifically: open the developer tools (F12) → Application/Storage → Local Storage → select membly.app → clear. Contact: privacy@membly.app.
