Payment and payout terms
Last updated: 19 August 2026
1. Scope
These terms apply to Membly's payment feature, which enables associations to collect membership fees and shared expenses digitally via the platform. The payment feature is an addition to Membly's general terms of service.
2. Payment processing via Stripe
Payments and payouts are handled by Stripe, a third-party payment service provider. When you activate payments, a Stripe account is created for your association, which is subject to Stripe's own terms of service and privacy policy. Stripe may request additional information in order to verify the association and its representatives before payouts can begin. The association owns its Stripe account and may continue to use it independently of Membly.
3. Fees
Membly charges a fixed service fee of SEK 25 including VAT per payment. The fee covers all payment processing, regardless of which payment method the member uses. The fee is added to the member’s payment. No further fees are added — the association always receives the full requested amount. The fee may be changed with 30 days' notice by email.
4. Payouts
Payouts to the association's bank account are handled by Stripe according to their payout schedule. Payouts may be delayed if Stripe requires additional verification, if there are ongoing disputes, or if information is missing. The association is responsible for keeping its details up to date in the Stripe Dashboard.
5. Disputes and refunds
If a payer disputes a payment, the process is handled via Stripe. The association is responsible for responding to disputes in its Stripe Dashboard, including submitting evidence within the deadlines Stripe specifies. Disputed amounts may be withdrawn from the association's Stripe balance. Membly has no financial exposure in disputes — the association bears this responsibility as the account holder.
6. Prohibited activities
You may not use Membly's payment feature for lotteries, raffles, competitions with randomly awarded prizes, or other chance-based fundraising without having obtained all necessary Swedish permits and Stripe's approval. Nor may the payment feature be used for the sale of goods or services, trading, or activities that conflict with Stripe's rules on restricted businesses. We may pause payouts and disable the payment feature if prohibited activity is detected.
7. Verification and payment holds
We may delay or pause payouts if information is missing, if Stripe requires additional verification, or if we reasonably suspect fraud, prohibited activity or a legal deficiency. We will notify you of the reason to the extent we are able to. Membly cooperates with Stripe on any security checks and sanctions screening carried out as part of Stripe's regulatory compliance.
8. Tax and accounting
The association is responsible for determining the correct VAT and tax treatment of amounts collected (membership fees, contributions and any taxable sales). Most non-profit associations are not registered for VAT and do not pay VAT on membership fees — but the association is itself responsible for assessing its tax status and for contacting the Swedish Tax Agency in case of uncertainty. Membly provides transaction records and export functions for your bookkeeping, but does not provide tax or legal advice. The Swedish Accounting Act (BFL, Chapter 7, Section 2) requires transaction records to be retained for at least seven years after the end of the financial year.
9. Data sharing with Stripe
When you activate payments, we share the necessary information with Stripe and related financial partners (for example acquiring banks and card networks) in order to process payments, prevent fraud and carry out payouts. Stripe may process certain personal data as an independent controller for regulatory compliance, including identity verification and requirements under anti-money-laundering legislation. Further information is available in Stripe's privacy policy at stripe.com/privacy. We do not collect or store your national identity numbers — this is handled directly by Stripe. Membly's data processing agreement (DPA) also applies to the processing of members' personal data within the payment feature.
10. Terminating the payment feature
You may disable the payment feature at any time in your association settings. Ongoing payment requests are closed and outstanding amounts are paid out according to Stripe's normal schedule. Your Stripe account remains active and accessible via the Stripe Dashboard even after the payment feature in Membly is disabled. Membly reserves the right to disable the payment feature in the event of a breach of these terms, with reasonable notice where possible.
