Membly aims to become the digital home of association life
After a period in Silicon Valley, entrepreneur Nino Mengarelli is betting on Swedish tech and relaunching Membly, a digital platform built for the everyday life of associations. The ambition is to bring an association’s communication and administration together in one place.

Sweden has a strong tradition of association life. Millions of people take part in sports clubs, cultural associations, community associations and non-profit organisations. At the same time, much of the communication still happens across a mix of Facebook groups, WhatsApp threads, email and spreadsheets.
Swedish company Membly wants to change that.
Behind the venture is Nino Mengarelli, co-founder and CEO of Membly. After a period living in Silicon Valley, at the centre of the global tech industry, he is now choosing to build the next generation of Membly from Sweden.
The new platform has been rebuilt from the ground up and designed specifically for the everyday life of an association. A member register, activities and sign-ups, chat, a feed and notifications are brought together in a single service.
Membly thereby fills the space between traditional administrative systems for associations and the commercial social platforms many associations use for their day-to-day communication.
“In Silicon Valley it became clear how much technology is built to capture our attention. We want to do the opposite and build technology that makes it easier for people to organise and communicate.”
Unlike social platforms, Membly is not built on advertising or algorithmic feeds. The idea is instead that the association gets a digital place of its own, where relevant information reaches the right people and members do not have to search across different channels.
The platform is developed and hosted in the EU and complies with the GDPR. In a first step, Membly is aimed at small and medium-sized Swedish associations. The ambition is to lower the threshold for getting involved and make it easier to take part in association life, and then to take the service further into the rest of the Nordics and Europe.
“Association life is one of the building blocks of democracy and deserves digital tools that make it easier to get involved. We want to give associations a secure and simple place for both the board and the members.”
Membly is now open to Swedish associations at membly.app, with the ambition of becoming the digital home of association life – first in Sweden and then across Europe.
